Snow Loads - Structural Design of Beams
Snow Loads
Not all roofs are designed to be able to carry snow loads. In areas where it typically doesn't snow, the local building often times doesn't require roofs to be designed to carry snow. In those cases, a minimum Roof Live Load will be required.
In areas where snow loads are expected, even if occasionally, the local building official will describe what the design snow loads are. In mountainous regions, the design snow loads can vary greatly with a short distance. It is best to check with your local building official to determine what the snow loads for your structure are.
